Entries for November 2010

  • Only one major downgrade this month - Allstate - both John Hancock and ING were placed on the watch list with negative implications by S&P
  • Deficit reduction discussions include elimination of the tax advantages of life and annuity contracts. Watching the process in Washington should prove interesting as the various interest groups lobby for their exceptions.
  • Long-Term Care has been in the news - Met Life and our own Blue Cross Blue Shield have both withdrawn from the market. As previously mentioned, John Hancock and Genworth have raised prices.

  • The top sellers of variable annuities remained stable through the first nine months of this year with Prudential leading followed by Met Life, Jackson National and TIAA-CREF.
